Twins, Galehead, & Hale

It was my week off from the summit. I had 6 days to hike. Being my first summer living and working in the White Mountains it was convenient for me to hike as much as I wanted. The plan was to camp at Zealand Campground for the first 2 nights. We would hike the Twins and Galehead in one day. In hopes we were feeling up for it hike Mount Hale the next and then Mount Washington for my first ever summer hike to the top and for our organizations annual hike-a-thon, Seek the Peak.
July 19th myself and my 2 co-workers awoke. It was a beautiful day. We packed our gear up and headed to drop off a car at one trail head and then began our day at another. We hit the trail and hiked North Twin Trail until we hit the summit of North and South Twin.
The trail started off pretty gradual and ran along side the river for the most part. We eventually came to an abrupt end of the trail and looked around for it, only to realize the next trail marker was all the way across the river. We managed to cross the river and get back on trail.
Once we arrived at the summit we sat down to take in some beautiful views and enjoy some snacks.

After we hit South Twin we took off down Twin Way. This trail is incredibly steep and I was so thankful we were going down it, not up. It was just under a mile until we reached Galehead hut and then another half mile to summit the boring summit of Galehead. Then we would turn around and head back down to the hut.

Once we were down and done grabbing some water from the hut we hit the trail to head back to our car. We took the Gale River Trail out. This was a long annoying trail. We were tired and not to mention they were doing tons of trail work so we were constantly walking over trail crew, and trekking through unforgiving parts of the trail. Once back at the car, we had a cooler waiting for us and the boys collected some fire wood along the way. It was safe to say it was a good day overall, and we then enjoyed a fire at the campground later on that night.

We awoke the next morning and decided to just go for Hale. We figured it was a short day hike, we didn't have to start super early and it wouldn't be all that difficult. We decided to head up Hale Brook Trail. This trail was steep and never ending it felt like. It did however, have some nice switch backs half way up that I enjoyed. Once at the top we made a quick stop to take photos and to eat our lunch. Then we hit the trail again and back to the car we went!
